WTCI-PBS Family Day Set For Sunday

  • Tuesday, November 6, 2018

WTCI will host Family Day, a free annual event, on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the Tennessee Valley’s community PBS station.

Hosted at 7540 Bonnyshire Drive, behind the Bonny Oaks Drivers Service Center, this free event will have PBS fun, activities and entertainment for people of all ages.

Children of all ages will enjoy touring a Chattanooga Fire Department fire engine, treats from McKee Bakery, facepainting, an obstacle course, corn hole, PBS KIDS games, activities and demonstrations from our community education partners.  Photo opportunities will be available for children with Clifford, Curious George and Super Why! and kids of all ages will enjoy learning about all of the fun, free PBS KIDS games, apps and resources at this community event. Guests are invited to bring a gently-used book for a swap to benefit HCDE schools and a canned good item or new socks to support the Chattanooga Community Kitchen.

The Cleveland Storytelling Guild will entertain children and guests will enjoy information and resources from the PBS station’s community partners, the Creative Discovery Museum, Mathnasium, Chattanooga Allergy Clinic, Belvoir Christian Academy, Crabtree Farms, United Way of Greater Chattanooga Project Ready for School, St. Nicholas School, Our House Studios and Trans4med Leadership.  The Quilts of Valor Foundation will present two special quilts to Sgt. David Fuqua of the Army National Guard and retired USN Commander Don Jernigan, a member of WTCI‘s Community Advisory Board.

Green screen activities, storybook reading and music will entertain children and parents as they tour the community PBS station, engage in PBS KIDS activities and learn about PBSLearningMedia.org resources.  Guests will enjoy opportunities to purchase Kona Ice with a portion of proceeds donated to support the educational programming on WTCI. All guests will have the opportunity to enter a drawing to receive a free family pack of tickets to the upcoming Wild Kratts Live event March 2 at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium.

Paul Grove, president and CEO of WTCI said, “Our team looks forward to hosting this event each year because it is an opportunity for WTCI to share the many free PBS resources that are available on-air and online with the families who can use them to support success in school and life.”

Exhibitors and community partners interested in being a part of WTCI’s summer learning event on May 11, 2019, should contact Rachel Froug at rfroug@wtcitv.org or 423-702-7819. For event information visit WTCI-PBS online at wtcitv.org/familyday.
