An electrical fire at the McDonalds at 4123 Hixson Pike forced the evacuation of the restaurant and caused a power outage to the surrounding area on Friday afternoon.
Chattanooga firefighters got the call around 2:30 p.m. and responded to the scene with several fire companies. All of the employees and customers had evacuated the building prior to the firefighters' arrival. No injuries were reported.
Smoke was visible as the firefighters made their way inside. Battalion Chief Chris Warren said the firefighters located the fire in the electric service box in the basement. The firefighters used dry powder extinguishers to quickly put the fire out. The electrical malfunction and resulting fire led to a power outage to the surrounding area for an hour or so. Once the power was disconnected to the restaurant, EPB restored power to the surrounding area.
An estimate on the dollar loss was not available, but the restaurant will be closed until the damage is cleaned up and repairs are made to the building's electrical service.
