Lewis Eugene "Gene" Clark, 85, of East Ridge, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018, after many years of declining health.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Farris Long Clark of Gordon County, Ga., and a grandson, Rob Proffitt of East Ridge.

Gene was a member of Spring Creek Road Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He retired from Dixie Saving Warehouse after 29 years of service.  Gene was a buyer and retail specialist.  He was known to be as good as his word, loved hunting and coached softball for 27 years.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Holsonback Clark; and devoted family: Vicky and Jackie Walden, Jeannie and Mike Morrison, Louie and Renee Clark, Ann and Andre Newman and Shelia and Steve Pierce, all of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Allen and Jennifer Hunley, Nathan and Monica Clark, Brandon and Leigh Ann Clark, Ryan and Tabitha Burks and Latasha and Jason King; eleven great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren, all precious to him.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, Tn. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Harold McClure officiating.  Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416.
