City Plans To Offer 13 Acres Of Montague Park For Development

  • Tuesday, December 11, 2018

City officials are planning to offer 13 acres of Montague Park for development.

Donna Williams, administrator of economic and community development, said a request for proposals will be issued soon on the section of the park along E. 23rd Street.

She said the aim is "economic development and job creation."

That section of the 45.5-acre park is currently used by Chattanooga Rugby.

Ms. Williams said the contract with the rugby club had expired. She said there will be a new three-month contract to allow the club to finish the current season.

Club officials said they have no other location in mind for an alternative field.

Another section of the park is in use as the Sculpture Fields under a long-term lease.

The park, which is at the site of a former city landfill, was closed for a number of years due to methane gas problems. Ms. Williams said that will not be an issue on the 13-acre site for most users.
