U.S. Army Veteran Was Nationally-Recognized Architect

Bruce Douglas Simonson, 73, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018, in a local hospital.

He was born in Madison, Wi.

He was an Army Reserve veteran during the Vietnam War. 

Mr. Simonson received his Masters of Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota. 

Bruce was a nationally-recognized architect extraordinaire, receiving many accolades for his work throughout the years. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). 

He truly loved time with his family and friends.

He particularly enjoyed volunteering with CHI Memorial Hospital and the ACE Mentor Program for high school students. 

Bruce enjoyed traveling and golf, especially traveling to play golf.  

His father, Melvin Simonson and daughter, Molly Bonner preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Cynthia Nesson; mother, Lois Simonson of Lander, Wy.; daughter, Kjirsten (Dave) Elsner of Belleville, Wi.; son-in-law, Ed Bonner of Buckhead, Ga.; two grandchildren, Thea Elsner of Belleville, Wi., and Chase Bonner of Buckhead, Ga.; sister, Sara (Verlin) Pitt of Lander, Wy.; and many dear friends.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 404 South Moore Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37412.
