Allie Ray “Little Hook” Varnell, Jr., 88, of Lookout Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during the Korean War. After serving his country he began civilian duty in the truck leasing business, from which he later retired. Mr. Varnell was a member of the Battlefield Baptist Church and was awarded the Deacon Emeritus award.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Carol Mayhall Varnell; parents, Allie R. Varnell, Sr. and Estell Belcher Varnell; daughter, Pamela Varnell Ferguson; sister, Peggy Spearman; sister, Joyce Long; and brother, Morris Varnell.
Surviving include his daughter, Mendy (Jeff) Varnell Rogers, of Lookout Mountain; son, Greg Varnell, Sr., of Sand Mountain, Ga.; grandchildren, Chris (Chasity) Ashby, Matthew Ferguson, Greg (Kim) Varnell, Jr., Mitchell (Shana) Varnell, Brandon Varnell, Laura (Justin) Boatner and Summer Rogers; eight great-grandchildren and two special great-granddaughters, Elleena and Reyna “Smiley”; brother, Roger (Elwanda) Varnell, of Austin, Tx.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14 in the chapel, with Pastor David Crane officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Friday at the Ryan Funeral Home, Trenton.
