Kyle Briner, a senior accountant at HHM CPAs, was the brainchild of “Run With Reason” in partnership with the Salvation Army Chattanooga. The fundraiser is two-fold, encompassing a run and a day of shopping, and will support 51 Angel Tree children and raise a total $3,200.
“Growing up, I was fortunate,” said Mr. Briner. “That is not the case for everyone, especially the Angel Tree kids.”
Mr. Briner says simply witnessing a need in the community led him to the idea. Participants in the fundraiser completed the run portion on the wet and cold morning of Dec. 8 at Redoubt Soccer Association. Staff ran a combined 82.5 miles, backed by sponsors who donated a specific amount per mile.
Angel Tree shopping will take place Saturday to purchase clothing, shoes, and toys for less fortunate children.
“Knowing how I grew up compared to some of the Angel Tree kids fueled me to leverage my influence and create a joyful environment for the kids and their families on Christmas,” said Mr. Briner.
Mr. Briner said he is looking forward to keeping the momentum alive for upcoming years and
making the program stronger.
“It is great to see some of our newer staff build relationships with local organizations,” said Donnie Hutcherson, HHM CPAs managing partner. “When Kyle came to me with the idea, I could see how passionate he was about it. I am looking forward to seeing Run with Reason become an annual fundraiser.”
HHM staff and the Salvation Army will distribute the gifts Monday.
