John L. “Jay” Dyer, 76 of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 at Hamilton Medical Center. 

He was the son of the late, Miller L. and Johnnie R. Hawes Dyer. 

Jay was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Grove Level Baptist Church, loved Tennessee Volunteer football and had a great sense of humor. He loved his family greatly and had a lifelong passion for photography, taking photos of many local events including sports, weddings, portraits, family and class reunions and more. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley Wright Dyer of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, John L. Dyer of Athens, Tn.; Greg and Debbie Dyer of Kennesaw, Ga., David and Vania Dyer of Dalton; a brother and sister of Crossville, Tn.; grandchildren, Alison, Matthew, Noah, Lindsey, Trenton, Tiffany, Tristan and Toby; and nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the chapel of Love Funeral Home. 

Burial will follow in Grovel Level Cemetery with American Legion Post 112 in charge of military rites.

The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 16, from 5-7 p.m.
