The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host a Nativity display this Saturday, from 6-8 p.m. at 3010 Hamill Road in Hixson.  All are invited to come and see a display of various Nativities from around the world, and to enjoy the sounds of the season.

It is said that Saint Francis of Assisi created the first nativity scene in 1223, in an effort to promote the true meaning of Christmas. “I want to do something that will recall the memory of that Child who was born in Bethlehem, to see with bodily eyes the inconvenience of his infancy, how he lay in the manger, and how the ox and ass stood by,” he said (catholiccompany.com).  St.

Francis’ recreation of that first Christmas night was so popular that “soon every church in Italy had its own nativity scene.”  The depiction of the birth of Jesus Christ has since become a Christmas tradition.

Local congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints around the world have also hosted thousands of Nativity displays during the Christmas season.  This year, the Hixson congregation will host an open house for everyone in the greater Chattanooga area.

Come and adore Him.  “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:11-14).

In celebration of the birth of Christ, whose name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God” (Isaiah 9:6), The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also invites all to view the Nativity Bible Video at https://www.lds.org/bible-videos/videos/the-nativity?lang=eng
