Tommy Watkins (38) has been one of the most popular coaches and managers of the Chattanooga Lookouts.  Watkins was drafted by Minnesota and starting playing for the Twins in 1998. Then in 2009, Watkins stepped out of playing and into coaching in the Twins' organization.

Most recently Watkins managed the 2018 Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts and has also managed the Salt River Rafters into the championship game of the Arizona Fall League in 2018.

In 2019 Watkins was promoted to his first major league coaching job, as first base coach under new manager Rocco Baldelli.

The Twins leave Chattanooga but remain in the Southern League with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The Cincinnati Reds return to Chattanooga after a 21-year absence, becoming the Major League affiliate of the Lookouts. Former Chicago Cubs' catcher, Jody Davis will manage the 2019 Chattanooga Lookouts team.

Opinion

Thank You, Commissioners

I want to thank the five county commissioners who voted down the ridiculous property tax increase. Your votes reflected the wishes of the electorate – and that is exactly as it should be. The voting citizen is inundated by “promises” during pre-election campaigns. By casting our vote we select the candidate that will (we hope) best represent our best interests. Yes, there are always ... (click for more)

About 10 years ago, Robert A. Hall, a five-time member of the Massachusetts State Legislature, wrote an essay on “Why I Am Tired.” In 2009 his story was on hundreds of others’ blogs – really made the rounds on the Internet – and thousands adored the Viet Nam veteran's candid assessment of what makes an ex-Marine grow weary. Again, this was written when he was 63. Now he’s ... (click for more)
