Betty Hayes Arnold, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018.

She was born in Chattanooga to the late C. W. and Helen Hayes.  Betty was a graduate of Chattanooga Central High School.  She was a former employee with DuPont Corporation and the Hamilton County School System.  Betty was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church for almost 60 years, where she was vice president of her Sunday School Class and worked in the church nursery.  Betty was a Breast Cancer survivor for over 20 years and loved to encourage and mentor anyone being diagnosed with breast cancer.  She was an avid walker, loved her aerobics class, gardening, cooking, reading and the Chicago Cubs.  Betty was a member of the Chattanooga Tennis Association and loved to travel with her husband.  She was one of the sweetest and kindest individuals you would ever want to meet.  Betty has been described as “Energy and Light” and was always willing to help you in any way.  She never missed an event and was always involved in her family’s lives.  She was a precious Wife, Mom, Grandma and GiGi.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Faye Hayes; son-in-law, Ronny Holder.     

Betty is survived by her husband of over 70 years, Harry Arnold, Jr.; daughter, Jayne Holder; son, Steve Arnold; five grandchildren, Amy (Sean) Gailey, Julie (Bo) Powell, Andy Holder, Stephen Arnold and Rachel Arnold; three great-grandchildren, River Gailey, Spencer Arnold, and Marigold “Goldie” Powell; several nieces.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. 

A Celebration of Life service for Betty will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend Ken Clark officiating. 

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakwood Baptist Church, 4501 Bonny Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416 or the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, Ok. 73123, www.cancer.org  

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
