Moc Hoopsters Host VMI

  • Friday, December 7, 2018
The Chattanooga Mocs end three in a row at home Sunday with a visit from VMI. It’s the first game of each squad’s Southern Conference slate.

Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., in McKenzie Arena. The matchup ends a leisurely 13-day stroll through three home games for the Mocs. Beginning Wednesday at Georgia State, they tackle the holiday rush with four contests in 10 days culminating in a Noon businessperson special in the Roundhouse against Bryan.

Freshman Kevin Easley continues to pace the team offensively averaging 14.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Jerry Johnson, Jr., also averages in double figures at 10.9 points per contest. The duo reached the 20-point mark three times this season with Easley doing it twice.

The Keydets are 5-5 on the campaign. They’re led by the SoCon’s top scorer to date, Bubba Parham. Parham tallies 21.9 points per game. He’s supported by Garrett Gilkeson (10.8 ppg, 6.0 rpg) and Greg Parham (10.7, 3.6 apg). VMI is coming off an 89-68 loss at No. 14 Virginia Tech Wednesday evening.

The Mocs won four of their last five SoCon openers with all five coming on the road. History likes this matchup. It’s the first time beginning league action against VMI since a 63-53 Mocs win on Dec. 6, 1980 in Maclellan Gym. That started the program’s first SoCon Championship season capturing regular season and tournament titles before losing to No. 18 Maryland (81-69) in the NCAA Mideast Regional in Dayton.

Tickets are available at the link above or by calling (423) 266-MOCS (6627). The contest airs on ESPN+ as well locally on the radio at 96.1 FM.
