Eight local schools, along with two schools from Huntsville, raced in electric powered race cars this past Saturday that they designed and built over the past year.

"All of the teams persevered when they had issues come up with their cars, which is 100 percent expected to happen durning the race, and cheered each other on as they tried to complete the most laps during their timed race," officials said.

In the Goblin Style Elementary Race, Nolan Elementary came in first, with visiting team from Huntsville, Walnut Grove Elementary, coming in second.  Woodmore came in close behind to take third place.

In the F-24 Middle/High School Race, Dalewood Middle completed the most laps to take first place, with Huntsville High School coming in second.

Sponsors included The Lyndhurst Foundation, Greater Chattanooga Robotics, Chattanooga State and Lowe's.
Volunteers from the Chattanooga Region Sports Car Club of America also helped with the event.

"The event will return next year," officials said.
