Signal Mountain Citizens Need More Information On Sale Of Water System

Thursday, March 8, 2018

Signal Mountain has received proposals to buy and/or manage our water system from Walden’s Ridge Utility District, which is public, and TN. American Water, a private company. When asked about having town meetings before any decision is made on this issue, then Mayor Dick Gee publicly stated at a town council meeting “we are going to have a thorough discussion with the citizens … we'll get a lot of input from citizens on what they feel is the right thing to do.”

When asked if there would be a couple of meetings with a Q & A format, so WRUD and TAW employees and/or representatives would each answer one question at a time from the public, Councilman Gee responded “At least a couple. Yes.”  I consider Councilman Gee a man of his word.

The time frame set for these meetings is March 14-April 4.

Potential customers of these entities deserve to have questions answered from personnel qualified to provide answers. I would expect WRUD and TAW to send several employees knowledgeable in areas such as water rates, riders, infrastructure, hydrant maintenance, customer service, water quality, info. about expense trackers, etc.

If TAW or WRUD will not participate in this format, and I can’t imagine both would not jump at the chance to answer questions in public, then the citizens can ask their questions to the one group that does want to participate.

I urge the citizens of Signal Mountain to attend at least one of these meetings. Bring questions
or just come to listen and learn.

The dates have not been announced, but I hope more information will be sent out in the very near future. March 14 is just around the corner.

Today Luka Hyde’s family received reimbursement for the outrageous discrimination this child suffered at Normal Park. The pain this family suffered is only one symptom of a bigger issue. The cost of this litigation (which included multiple pointless appeals by the Hamilton County Department of Education) came close to $1,000,000. That is $1,000,000 not going to the education ...
