On the strength of nine first place finishes McCallie won the 2018 Chattanooga Optimist Championship hosted by GPS this weekend.
Defending state decathlon champion Hakim McMorris led McCallie by winning the long jump and high jump.
McCallie had a good day in the relays winning the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 races. Joshua Smith ran a personal best in winning the 300 hurdles and Samuel Ligon dominated the field in the 1600 meter run.
McCallie’s weight men finished first and second in both the shot and discus - Dre Taylor and Wyatt Hughes in the shot and Quindarius Dunnigan and Patrick Ramey in the discus.
Head coach Mike Wood said he was pleased with his team’s effort. “Coach Reno and Coach Tolar do a remarkable job with our throwers and they set the tone today.”
McCallie totaled 214 points. Baylor was second with 113 points and Cleveland third with 105.
McCallie will host 22 schools next Saturday at the McCallie Mid-South Invitational.
