Ed Norton

Edwin "Ed" Norton, 79, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at his residence surrounded by family.

He was the son of the late Ernest and Belva Norton and was preceded in death by his twin infant sons, James and Michael; son, James E. Norton; and sister-in-law, Monica Feighery Whaley.

Ed was born on Nov. 30, 1938 and was a life-long resident of Dalton. He attended Dalton High School and graduated in 1957. While there he was a member of the tumbling team and preformed as an exhibition diver. He went on to a career in sales within the carpet industry including time with J.M. Feighery Company.

He loved his family, water activities, Western movies and animals. He was known as "fast Eddie" to a lot of his family and friends for the countless hours he spent behind the wheel of the boat pulling skiers and tubers. He always had a smile on his face and was up for just one more time. He was the first to jump in the lake to help teach someone to ski or just to play water games or have a diving contest. Many times this was the demise of the wallet still locked in his pocket.

At home, Ed was usually found grilling out with his family around the pool, making his famous dressing during the holidays, and watching westerns, especially if they included John Wayne, with the family dog located under the chair (Charlie Brown) or in his lap (Gracie). He was always happy to see you and lend a hand to help out or an ear just to listen.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Michelle (Mickey) Norton; daughter, Tambra Holmes;son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Allison Norton and their son, Odin. Also by brother-in-law, Ron Whaley; sister-in-law, Vickey Feighery Gordon; nieces Danielle Joyce Ezell and Mallory Whaley Eaves, their families; and nephew Michael Gordon and his family; along with special friends of the family, Mark Wilson and Robin Ellenburg.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Love Funeral Home.

The family asks that flowers please be omitted and memorials be made to the Humane Society of Northwest Georgia, PO Box 3946, Dalton, GA 30719.
