Douglas Sisemore
Douglas Allen Sisemore, Sr., 92, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away quietly in the early morning hours on Thursday, May 3, 2018.
Doug was born on Jan. 20, 1926, to Earl and Barbara Sisemore. He graduated from Central High School. He played junior league baseball where he was a standout pitcher with a record 49 consecutive shutout innings.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 on board U.S.LST 1343 as a Seaman, First Class earning the Asiatic-Pacific, Victory and American Theatre Medals. After the war he attended Kirkman Technical School. He was employed by Dixie Yarns Mercerizing, where he retired after 40 years of service.
He committed his life to the Lord and faithfully served him throughout his lifetime. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church until moving his membership to Brainerd Hills Baptist Church where he was a deacon and sang in the choir. He was an outstanding vocalist and was often asked to sing solos at church, weddings, funerals and special occasions.
He was a self-taught carpenter and loved being outside tending his garden or working in the yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Raymond Sisemore.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Bernice Helton Sisemore, son, Doug (Pam) Sisemore, Jr. of Franklin, Tn., daughter, Kathy (Rusty) Bailey of Hebron, Ky., daughter, Karen Hyde of Chattanooga; sister, Edna Earle (Eldridge) Harris of East Ridge and brother, Paul (Dottie) Sisemore of Lakeland, Fl., grandchildren, Tommy (Melissa), Sallie, Josh, Allen and Edward, great-grandchildren, Madison and Jade and many, many loving sister and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 7, at Brainerd Hills Baptist Church, 6611 E. Brainerd Road. Interment will follow with honors at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave.

The family will receive friends from 2-7 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road, and from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 7, at the church.
