Robert Patrick Locklear
A Brainerd man said he came home and found a man trying to steal his car.
He held Robert Patrick Locklear at his residence until police arrived.
Locklear, 37, of 810 Chattanooga Road, was charged with theft of property, burglary, arson and aggravated criminal trespass.
The incident happened on Sunday on Idlewild Drive.
The resident said he had noticed that his garage, which he left closed and locked, was open. He found Locklear lying in the front driver seat with his hands near the gear shift. The steering column was broken and the vehicle had been moved about four feet backwards.
The garage door had been forcibly opened by cutting a hole in the door and manipulating the lock on the inside.
A separate storage shed had been entered and a small fire started there.
Locklear had on him a Roadrunner pin, two black keys and a stereo remote - all of whom belonged to the resident.
Locklear has an extensive record for theft, assault, drug and driving charges.
