Fighting For Every Child

Saturday, July 7, 2018
One of the key roles of the school board is to advocate for our students and a distinguished public education. For what may be seen by many as a challenge, I see as an opportunity. Some may see it as a challenge for nine school board members - from various backgrounds - to come together to carry out one mission. However, I see it as an opportunity for nine people to bring their passions and skills to the table to impact our children for the better.

I see that Hamilton County has the opportunity to join Tennessee’s “School Based Mental Health Liaisons” program currently in place in 10 counties.
This program will provide our teachers with hands-on training on how to create learning environments for children who have or are at-risk for different behavior problems. They will also learn how to identify challenges a child is facing and how to bridge the gap between the school and the child’s family.

Every day there is a child who is in need of support from an adult because they don’t know how to handle the difficulties at home, in their community, a tragedy they’ve experienced, or challenges amongst their peers. Every day there is a child who falls through the cracks because they are too far ahead or behind of their peers academically. Every day is an opportunity for us to support these children and empower our schools with training and tools on how to best do that.

As a school board District 3 candidate, I see the opportunities presented to my community of Hixson and the county and I am prepared to advocate for our children and their education. I don’t just fight for my child to have the best education possible, I fight for every child in District 3 and throughout the county to receive the best. All children deserve the best.

National Standards Needed For Voting

It’s a shame that in 2018 there are no national standards when it comes to voting. It should be the same in Tennessee as in Arizona or Maine. Why are we still using voting machines?
