A Lack Of Responsibility - And Response

Friday, August 17, 2018

As a retired restaurateur, I was interested in the story of the recently opened River Drifter restaurant having contaminated well water resulting in the sickness of dozens of its customers.

However, my curiosity turned to disgust while watching the co-owner (Charles Eich) being interviewed by  NewsChannel 9 last night. While Eich stated he was sorry for the sick customers, he took no responsibility for it.

In fact, he placed all of the blame on the Health Department for not asking him about the source of his water. Health officials naturally assumed it was city water. Eich never had the well water tested, which I find incredible.

I grew up on a farm which had well water, as did many of our friends and neighbors. All of us had our water tested periodically. And it never occurred to Eich to have well water that is used in his restaurant tested? Wow.

* * *

I grew up on a farm with a well and it was never tested.  None of the neighbors had their wells tested either.  Only time a well was tested was when somebody got sick.

We have eaten at River Drifters and drank the water five times. That makes 17 of us that did not get sick from the water or food.  Food was excellent by the way.

We will be having dinner at River Drifters today.
