The Chattanooga State volleyball team played its inaugural home opener Tuesday night and won a hard fought victory 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18)over visiting Hiwassee College (2-2). The win lifted the Lady Tigers record 1-4 after what assistant coach Robin Moore called a “very tough weekend tournament.”
Overall, head coach Janet Tate, formerly head coach at Hixson High School, thought her team played a complete match.
She said after the match, “I thought our girls played well tonight. We lost our focus during the third game, but rebounded well. Our passing looked good and our hitting was good.”
Freshman Sidney Killingsworth led the Chattanooga State effort with 10 kills, six digs and three blocks, while Kayla Wimpee dominated the net play with 14 kills.
The match was played in front of a huge fan turnout, led by the attendance of each of the other Chattanooga State athletic teams. Coach tate had this to say about the turnout, “What an outstanding crowd we had tonight! Students, other athletic teams and coaches were there to support us. (college president) Dr. (Rebecca) Ashford spoke. We just really appreciated the presence of Chatt State and our crowd very much tonight.”
The Lady Tigers next face Georgia Northwestern at home Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m.
