Loyd Hood
Loyd A. Hood, 76, of Jasper, Tennessee, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Thursday, August 2, 2018.
The son of the late Bartley Hood, Sr. and Lucille Anderson Hood, he was a founding member of Faith Baptist Church. Loyd was a business owner, truck driver, and farmer. He worked in law enforcement for many years, serving with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Jasper Police Department, and for 12 years, as Sheriff of Marion County, where he started the Marion County Rescue Squad. He was a major supporter of the Haletown Fire Department, having helped get them their first fire truck. He was also an avid Marion County Warriors Football fan and supporter. He enjoyed fishing, especially with his brother, and more than anything loved being a father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Rev. Robert Hood, and sister, Iva Sue Hood.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hood, of Jasper; daughters, Tracie Hood (Chris) Allender, of Jasper, Jackie Hood, of Centre, Al., Jana Hood (Daniel) Massengale, of Jasper, and Mary (Richard) Jernigan, of Atlanta, Georgia; chosen son, Wayne (Amy) Jordan; grandsons, James Loyd Kilgore, Jacob Hood Allender, Caleb Daniel Massengale, Jared Christopher Allender, and Elijah Richard Massengale; brothers, Bartley (Carolyn) Hood, Jr., Pat (Eloise) Hood; sister, Wanda (Bobby) Kilgore; sister-in-law, Margie Hood; friends, Jeannie Nunley and James Ed Layne; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Central Time on Monday, Aug. 6, with Reverend Roger Webb, officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Jasper.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 5–9 p.m and on Sunday, Aug. 5, from 12–9 p.m. Central Time at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper.
