Cumberland Trail State Scenic Trail in Spring City invites the public to join them from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29 to celebrate National Public Lands Day and the 50th Anniversary of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
The Cumberland Trail will have a snake/insect booth, a creek stomp (weather permitting), a gift shop and will be joined by the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, who will have a local aquatic wildlife tank, Tennessee State Natural Areas, the Cumberland Trails Conference and the Friends of the Cumberland Trail.
At noon there will be a guided hike to dedicate the new Soak Creek segment of the Cumberland Trail, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Tennessee State Parks Deputy Commissioner Brock Hill.
The guided hike will be strenuous, so participants are asked to plan accordingly.
The event will be held in the Piney River Parking Area in Spring City. Directions can be found online at: tnstateparks.com/parks/cumberland-trail
