Union Gospel Mission Hosts 4th Annual Labor Day Barbecue Fundraiser

Monday, September 3, 2018

The Union Gospel Mission will host its fourth annual Labor Day Fundraiser serving free barbecue plates to the general public. Donations will be accepted and encouraged.

UGM Director Rev. Jon Rector said “After last year’s success with the added location we will be hosting our BBQ at both locations once again at New Haven Baptist Church (1058 Graysville Road) and Friendship Baptist Church (1005 Gadd Road). This year’s goal is to raise $7,500. Both locations will be giving away free traditional BBQ (pork or chicken) dinners including slaw, baked beans, bread, drink, and dessert; and accepting and encouraging donations. As our only public fundraiser of the year this allows us to continue serving the homeless and needy of the Chattanooga area as well as introducing our ministry to new friends and financial partners.”

Serving Chattanooga since 1950 UGM has provided over two million meals, one million safe nights’ sleep, countless tons of clothing and other items. Currently, UGM’s residential programs provide free and low cost options for men struggling with “life-controlling issues” (homelessness, addiction, alcoholism, etc.).

Through the donations of those supporting our Labor Day BBQ fundraiser, the continued success of “Meeting Needs, Making Change, and Magnifying Christ!” will have exponential results which make any donation the best investment one could ever make.

HES Can't Be Matched, Replicated Or Cheaply Duplicated

As a volunteer at the Humane Educational Society for four years, I have first-hand knowledge of the work this organization does and the conditions it has to overcome to do it. The 118-year-old facility in which the administration, staff and volunteers work every day is at the end of its road. A new shelter space is more than warranted. The good news is that there are county funds ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: A Thanksgiving Request

Just what if … this Thursday you could say "Thank you" to someone who, chances are, you never met nor even heard the other’s name? There is also no way you’ll ever get a thank-you note, nor have your Sunday School class friends at church whisper how much they richly appreciated your kind thoughtfulness, secretly aquiver that you will not tell them what it was that earned such praise ...
