UTC Wrestlers Travel To Virginia Duals
Thursday, January 10, 2019
The Chattanooga Mocs hit the road this weekend for the Virginia Duals in Hampton, Va. Action takes place on Jan. 11-12 at the Hampton Coliseum.
Founded in January of 1981, the Virginia Duals was an innovator in college wrestling, bringing the dual-meet advancement format into widespread usage. The tournament grew from eight college teams in 1981 to its current arrangement of 16 collegiate programs in two divisions.
What started out with just four mats on the floor of the Hampton Coliseum has evolved into a 10-mat festival of wrestling, powered by hundreds of volunteers from around the country.
UTC is competing in the national college division that includes No.
13 Virginia Tech (2-2), No. 20 Lock Haven (2-0), No. 16 Arizona State (1-4), Kent State (6-7), Oklahoma (2-2), Old Dominion (3-2) and Virginia (7-5).
The Mocs are matched up against the Hokies in the bottom half of the eight-team bracket, with match time set for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 11. Also on this side of the draw are Old Dominion and Kent State. Teams are guaranteed at least three duals in the two-day event, so be sure to check back to the wrestling schedule page on GoMocs.com for updates.
Live video for the tournament is available via pay-per-view through TrackWrestling. There is also live scoring via TrackWrestling and links for both are on the wrestling schedule page on GoMocs.com. Live updates are posted on the UTC twitter page @UTCWrestling.
