Ernestine Hawkins
Ernestine Hunt Hawkins, 101, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away at the home of her daughter, Gail, and Fred Kelley where she had lived for over 10 years, on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.
She was born on May 8, 1917, to W.M. and Ida Miller Hunt, in Cleveland. When she was eight years old, the family moved to Rossville. Ernestine attended Rossville schools, graduating from Rossville High School in 1935.
She attended and was a member of the East Chattanooga Church of God for over 93 years, where she was a member of the choir and taught teenage and adult ladies Sunday School classes for many years.
Ernestine married the love of her life, Oscar B. Hawkins, on Oct. 10, 1935, and they were married for over 61 years when he passed away on January 16, 1997.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Elmer Hunt of Rossville, and her sisters, Cathleen Free and Geneva Allen of Largo, Fl.
Survivors include her two daughters, Gail (Fred) Kelley of Chattanooga, with whom she lived, and Sandra (Jerry) Aslinger, of Franklin, Tn.; three grandsons, Fredrick (Shannon) Kelley and Christopher Kelley both of Chattanooga; Rodney (Stephanie) Aslinger, Franklin, TN; five great-grandsons, Daniel and Justin Kelley, of Chattanooga, Josh, Conner and Caleb Aslinger, of Franklin, Tn.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Don Stovall, Reverend Travis Ballinger, and Reverend Ty Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with the grandsons and great-grandsons serving as pallbearers.
