Donald Wayne Kress went to be with his Lord on January 19, 2019. 

Born January 16, 1936, in Chattanooga to parents, William and Virginia (Keith) Kress, Don had just marked his 83rd birthday.

He was a graduate of City High School and Tennessee Tech University.  He began his career at Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company before being drafted into the U.S. Army.  Upon completing his service, Don returned to his career as an underwriter and compliance officer for many years. After retirement he devoted his time to philanthropic organizations, serving on several boards.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jeannette (Kress) Smith. 

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn (Ellis) Kress; brother, William H. Kress, Jr. (Barbara); children, Kevin Kress (Marina) and S. Nicole Kress; grandsons, Jacob Nation, Matthew, Joshua, and Jonathan Kress.

A burial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, Jan. 24, at Brainerd Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall until 4 p.m.

The family would like to thank Dr. Cherry, Dr. Thel, and Dr. Morrison for taking such good care of Don.  Additional thanks to Amedisys Hospice, especially Karen West, for their excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, 800 McCallie Ave, Chattanooga, Tn. 37403.
