Paul Rose, a businessman from Covington, won the GOP primary in a special election on Thursday for State Senate District 32. Eric Coleman, the lone Democrat on the ballot, picked up 543 votes.
Mr. Rose had 6,398 votes. Other Republican candidates were George Chism 1,530, Heidi Shafer 1,520 and Steve McManus, 1,157.
The seat became vacant after Republican Mark Norris was nominated by President Donald Trump on Jan.
8 to serve as a judge on the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.

Paul is a long time friend and has been committed to advocating for conservative ideas and will make a great state senator. We are eager to help them win the general election and help continue the successes of our Senate super majority."
The special election will be March 12,.
Mr. Rose, 65, is the owner of Rose Construction Company.
