Walter Berry, 65, Killed In Accident On East 23rd Street Thursday Night

  • Friday, January 4, 2019

Walter Berry, 65, was killed in an accident Thursday night on East 23rd Street.

At approximately 8:46 p.m., the Traffic / DUI Division responded to 500 East 23rd Street on a fatal collision.

A GMC Safari, driven by Mr. Berry was traveling west on East 23rd Street in the slow lane, which turns into a merge lane.  An International Semi, driven by Michael McPherson, 41, was also traveling west on East 23rd Street in the middle lane, which is a continuous lane.

Mr.
McPherson
had established the lane and had the right of way. He said that he saw headlights beside him, and then noticed the GMC losing control in the roadway. It was determined by roadway evidence that the GMC attempted to pass the semi to merge in front of it, but was unable to pass it.

Skid marks on the roadway show that Mr. McPherson then slammed the brakes, losing control and striking the GMC. This caused it to spin out in the roadway, and the strike the concrete barrier on the bridge.

Hamilton County EMS responded to the scene and transported Mr. Berry to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Anyone with information about this wreck is asked to call 423-698-2525. You can remain anonymous.
