Member Of The Chattanooga Golf And Country Club For Over 50 Years

Wednesday, January 9, 2019

Carl Eugene Shiles was born on April 22, 1927, the son of Harry Julien Shiles and Vivian Lucille Turner Shiles.  He died January 7, 2019.

He had no surviving siblings. During his last days he was surrounded by his much loved and much loving family including his wife, Dana Hardin (Diddy) Shiles, who survives him; their two sons, Carl Eugene Shiles, Jr. (Gene) and his wife, Nancy, Bryan Russell Shiles and his wife, Sarah of San Francisco; grandchildren, Carl Brenan Shiles, Kellen Roberts Shiles of Chattanooga, Nicholas Willmer-Shiles of Seattle and Emma Pearl Willmer-Shiles of New York.

Carl and Diddy met in Daytona Beach, Fl. (Carl’s home town) when she was vacationing with friends.  This meeting led to a 64-year marriage and a wonderful family.

Carl had a sales agency for many years. When he retired he stayed very active in serving on Harborpoint Homeowners Association Board as president and then as president of the Harborpoint Waterfront Association.  Carl had a very creative spirit and always wanted to “brighten the corner where he was.”

He was a member of the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club for over 50 years where he enjoyed golf and the camaraderie of fellow members.  He was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 3204 Hixson Pike with Pastor Barry Hildebrandt officiating. Private intombment of ashes will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later date.

A Gathering of Friends will be held from 10–11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat of Humanity, Siskin Children’s Institute, Cross of Christ Lutheran Church or the McCallie School.
