Cleveland State Men's Basketball Rolls Past Combine Preparatory School

Wednesday, January 9, 2019 - by Evan Stutzman

Cleveland State Men's basketball took on Combine Preparatory School for their first match of 2019, winning by a score of 78-60.

The starting lineup for the Cougars on Wednesday evening was Demonte Person, Darius Turman, Maurice Dickson, Delaino Walker, and Johnathon King.

The game started off with Cleveland State winning the tip but it was Combine Preparatory who scored the first points of the game. It was a back and forth affair at the beginning of the game as Combine Preparatory showed resilience in the paint. The Cougars took what would be their lasting lead of the game around the seven-minute mark in the first half, as Collin Herron dropped a smooth triple to take a 19-16 lead.

Cleveland State refused to give up their lead for the rest of the game, opening up the paint on Combine's side of the court and displaying amazing speed and ball movement in transition. Cleveland State ended the first half with a 14-3 run on Combine.

The Cougars' largest lead of the game came in the second half when they held 59 points over Combine's 28. Cleveland State continued their game and held on to their solid lead, ultimately winning the game, 78-60.

The win puts the Cougars at 5-8 (2-4) on the season. They'll look to remain in the win column as they face Chattanooga State Community College on January 12th for a road matchup.
