You know it’s almost time for college basketball when you start seeing viral videos of schools hosting midnight madness events. This past week Snoop Dogg made waves for his provocative performance at Kansas, Wiz Khalifa performed for Pitt, and Memphis had Future and Lil Baby. Each of these concerts came complete with light shows, and dramatic uniform reveals. Oh and there was basketball played too.
All the excitement made me jealous and yearn for UTC hoops to host such an event.
Obviously, we don’t have the money or clout to compete with some of these programs, but here would be my outline for Mocs Madness:
-
A Friday night (9 p.m.) the day before the football team’s bye week
-
Free admission for students. $10 charge for visitors
-
2 quarters played by Women’s team
-
3 point contest, dunk contest
-
1 half played by Men’s team
-
Performance by Chattanooga-native rapper Isaiah Rashad
My theory is this event would help with attendance and recruiting. I’m sure there are some holes in my theory, but don’t shoot me down while I’m flying this close to the sun. 14 days until Mocs basketball is back in our lives!

Disclaimer I’m an employee of UTC and obviously do not speak on behalf of the school. There are people much smarter than me who are in charge of making these sorts of decisions.
