University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis freshman Jessie Young won the 2019 University of Cincinnati/Pam Whitehead Invitational today. Young scored 18 points in singles action to take the top spot in the tournament.
Young notched her third win of the weekend at No. 1 singles today. She defeated Xavier’s Emily Thomas [6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (9)] for her third three-set victory of the event.
All totaled, the Mocs won six matches in singles and doubles today. Young and junior Emma Van Hee posted a 6-1 win over Cincinnati’s Alexia Coutino and Ioana Guna at No.
1 doubles.
Junior Bogdana Zaporozhets and sophomore Polina Goloputova had two doubles wins at No. 2. They opened with a 6-2 win over Cincinnati’s Clarie Koscielski and Kelli Niehaus and followed with a 6-2 victory against Bowling Green’s Ayumi Saska and Yulia Kapitanova.
Sophomore Caroline Gibbens and freshman Callie Billman closed out doubles play with a 7-5 win over Bowling Green’s Laura Silveira and Maria Jose Majo Magro at No. 3.
In singles play, Billman defeated Xavier’s Natalie Moyer in three sets [2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6)]. A full list of results is available below.
Up next for the Mocs is the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals. That event takes place at MTSU in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Oct. 17-21.
