Police Blotter: Man From Publishers Clearing House Keeps Changing Names; Walgreens Saves Man From Emptying Company Safe

A resident of Union Avenue said between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., his two weed eaters (valued at around $600 total) and his green lawnmower (valued at around $100) were taken from the outside of his house. There iare no suspects known at this time.

A woman's car was stolen at the campus of Chattanooga Christian School. Items inside were a  Mac book, two dresses valued at $80 together, a set of Birkenstocks valued at $100, a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses valued at $150, a Columbia brand rain jacket valued at $75, and a hammock valued at $100.

At a business on Highway 153, an employee said someone he believed to be from his cooperate office instructed him to take the money from the safe of his place of business and to buy Visa gift cards and to give them the numbers on the gift card. The obliging company official was stopped by an employee of Walgreens whose policy is not to sell more than one gift card at a time to customers.

At a house on 12th Avenue, a woman said sometime during the night someone threw bricks through two windows of her residence. She woke up around 6:30 a.m. to find the windows broken and bricks on the ground. The damage was estimated to be approximately $400. There is no suspect information. She said she has problems with her neighbor, and they have restraining orders against each other.

At a work site at 1000 River Gorge Road, Zachary Coins reported that he noticed after arriving on site for work that the Genie Man Lift was damaged. It had at least three 30-foot hydro hoses cut and loss of fluid from the machine.

Officers responded to a broken down vehicle on Mountain View Road. It was occupied by a female who was seven months pregnant. The woman said she was out of fuel. She said she is not from this area and had no one to call. Officers contacted T-DOT who responded to exit 11 and met with officers to drop off a fuel can. The woman paid for one gallon of fuel and officers put the fuel in her vehicle. The battery was also dead on the vehicle. Officers finally had the vehicle running and the pregnant lady was on her way.

A woman on Jarnigan Road said someone called her and said they were with the Publishers Clearing House and she won $2 million and a vehicle. The woman said the unknown person informed her she needed to send $1,599 by cashier's check to an address in New York. She later received another call from the same person who said needed to send the money to Sherica Murray at 517 Lakeview Way, Winchester, Tn. The woman said she realized the people calling were involved in a scam and she did not send any money. She said through the many conversations she had with the unknown person said his name was Jack Wilson and another time said it was Jack Newman.

An employee of Old Navy at Hamilton Place said a black female known for shoplifting at the store came inside the business. One of the employees was looking at her and talking on the radio that the employees use to communicate with each other. The known shoplifter thought that the employee was talking about her and started yelling and throwing things in the store. The employee said he walked to the female and asked her to leave. He said she was being disorderly and every time she walked out of the business she would come right back inside to keep arguing with the employees. The woman finally left the business.

At a poster business on Kanasita Drive, employees said they looked out the window and saw a white female with brown hair standing in the shade next to a white semi that was parked next to a Subaru Impreza. Police were told it appeared that the female was casing the vehicle. By the time employees could react she was in the vehicle and had driven away onto Adams Road. The owner said she had left her windows cracked due to the heat and her keys were inside the vehicle.
