Red Bank City Attorney Arnold Stulce has worked out a plan that will allow developer Elliott Brewer and his business, Brothers Construction Company, to continue a project that has been put on hold. Mr. Brewer received a zoning change from the commissioners, for two 150-foot lots on Lullwater Road. The zoning change was needed to be able to use the property for building six townhomes. The developer had to run a quarter mile of sewer lines through the road to the site.
This was done by a WWTA contractor before the subdivision plat was approved. The developer paid the contractor for the work. However, repairs to the road were not taken into consideration when planning, and Mr. Brewer, who is responsible for the road repairs, is now unable to fix what is now a very bumpy street caused by the sewer cut. "We cannot wait to repave the rough road," said City Attorney Stulce.
The city of Red Bank will do the road repairs and repaving. Mr. Brewer will sign a mortgage with the city. Building permits will be withheld for each lot until that portion of the road has been paid for. The project can continue to move forward, the city will be repaid and the street will be repaved. If the cost of the roadwork is not repaid, the city will have the mortgaged property. “I think it’s a good solution to a bad problem,” said Vice Mayor Ruth Jeno. The commissioners passed the proposal unanimously.
In other business, the purchase of a rear load garbage truck from Lee Smith Inc. was approved for the price of $157,753. Funds to pay for the truck are in the 2020 budget.
The concert in Red Bank City Park on Saturday was held in honor of the late Vice Mayor of Red Bank, Terry Pope, and as a fundraiser for the new Red Bank Food Pantry. There was a good turnout and it was a good way for people in the city to get together, said Mayor Eddie Pierce.
The MidSouth Symphonic Band, of which Terry Pope was a member, played for around an hour. During that time, said Vice Mayor Jeno, two barrels of food were collected and $850 in cash was donated. The Food Pantry will be opening on Oct. 17 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Boxes will be pre-packaged on Wednesday starting at 10 a.m. Anyone who would like to help is invited to come, said Ms. Jeno.
