Emily Drake, RN, Receives Daisy Award For Extraordinary Nurses

  • Wednesday, October 16, 2019

Emily Drake, RN, at CHI Memorial, recently received the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

A group of Ms. Drake’s coworkers nominated her for jumping in to action when a fellow employee experienced a medical issue. “Emily Drake then became ‘super nurse’ and took complete control… She loaded her up in a wheelchair and took her to the [doctor’s] office and stayed with her the entire time.  She had her new meds filled, fixed her pill dispenser and relabeled her pill bottles so she could easily see how the pills were needed.  She has gone by to check on her and plans to continue to fill her pill dispenser and take her back to the doctor for a follow up. Emily Drake is going over and beyond showing compassion, and due to her attentiveness, caring spirit and great nursing skills for [our coworker] and for all who she comes in contact with, her department would like to nominate her for a Daisy Award.”

Ms. Drake is the heart failure coordinator at CHI Memorial Hospital Chattanooga.  She has worked at CHI Memorial since May 2012.

"CHI Memorial is pleased to partner with the DAISY Foundation to recognize the extraordinary difference nurses make in the lives of patients and co-workers," officials said. "Nurses are chosen each month to receive this wonderful award that honors compassionate care."

At a presentation attended by the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, leaders and visitors, the honoree receives a certificate commending which reads, "In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people."

"The honoree is also given a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa, a daisy bouquet and a copy of her/his nomination letter. The honoree's nursing unit receives a cinnamon doughnut party because it takes a team for a nurse to achieve his/her best. Tasty Doughnuts generously donates the treats for this worthy cause," officials said.
