Owner Of Trucking Firm In Wreck That Claimed 6 Lives At Ooltewah Exit Seeks Bankruptcy Protection

The owner of a Kentucky trucking firm whose driver was convicted of causing a wreck that killed six people at the Ooltewah exit of I-75 has filed for bankruptcy protection.

Billy Ray Sizemore, owner of Cool Runnings Express of London, Ky., said the firm has assets of $101,000.

It is facing $331.3 million in claims from a host of lawsuits in several states.

Travis and Tina Close of Signal Mountain are among those suing. Their case is in Federal Court in Chattanooga. They were among those in a line of traffic in the northbound lanes stalled by a construction project when the truck came up at a high rate of speed.

The truck driver, Benjamin Brewer,  was sentenced to serve 55 years in state prison. 

Killed were well-known Cleveland musician Brian Gallaher and Dalton State assistant director of residential life Jason Ramos. Also killed were Tiffany Watts, her mother Sandra Anderson, and daughters Kelsie and Savannah.
