Lee University’s Brass Choir will perform on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall. The concert will be conducted by Dr. David Holsinger, professor of music and Wind Ensemble conductor.
The evening will include works, dating from 1600 to the present, by Samuel Barber, Emma Lou Diemer, Edwin Franko Goldman, Dr. Holsinger, Claudio Monteverdi, Vaclav Nelhybel, and Orazio Vecchi.
The Brass Choir has 19 musicians (15 brass and four percussionists) who explore the exclusive repertoire of large brass ensemble literature and various transcriptions. According to Dr. Holsinger, it is a unique opportunity for brass players to address the issues they face in their particular musical family.
Dr. Holsinger teaches advanced and graduate level instrumental conducting, orchestration, and composition. He is an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association and is a two-time American Band Association Ostwald Award winner. His compositions have won four national competitions and have been finalists in the National Band Association and Sudler competitions.
Dr. Holsinger is a guest composer and conductor with All-State organizations, professional bands, and university ensembles throughout the United States. He has been a visiting composer-in-residence at 11 American colleges and universities.
This is a free, non-ticketed event, open to the public.
