Lee theatre professor Dan Buck, right, rehearses for a production of the play “Red,” joined onstage by co-star Nathan Tullos
Dan Buck, associate professor of theatre at Lee University, performed in the play “Red” by John Logan. The play was performed at Barking Legs Theater.
Mr. Buck portrayed abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko and Lee theatre alumnus Nathan Tullos co-starred as Rothko’s assistant, Ken. “Red” was directed by Lee theatre student Stephanie Wolfe and stage managed by Lee alumna Kate Bosch, who graduated with a theatre minor.
“I love this play, and I have wanted to play the character for some time,” said Mr. Buck. “I’m at a place in my life where I’ve decided if I want to do something, I just need to tenaciously pursue it and make it happen. So, I found a sponsor, did a small Kickstarter campaign, and went for it.”
The play was produced by Mr. Buck’s newly-formed company Tiger Leap Productions. Over 200 people saw the performance over the one-weekend run.
Mr. Buck joined the Lee Theatre faculty in the fall of 2010. He teaches classes in acting, directing, and dramatic literature. He has worked as a professional actor and improviser in the Boston and Orlando areas, and he created a high school theatre program for a private school which he directed for five years. He also directs many of the theatre productions at Lee and is the sponsor of the improvisation team, Shenanigans.
