The Covenant men's soccer team kept rolling along as the Scots collected another lopsided, shutout victory with a 5-0 blanking of Huntingdon on Saturday evening in Montgomery.
Covenant (13-2-1, 10-0 USA South) moves to 10-0 in conference play for the first time in program history and the Scots also set a program record for conference wins in a season. The Scots extended a USA South regular season winning streak to 15 with the victory.
Saturday's match was in little doubt very early on.
Covenant scored three goals in the first eight minutes of play and led 4-0 at halftime en route to the win.
Jake Major scored two of those goals early in the first half. Major scored in the fourth minute as he took a through ball from Noah Lee and beat Huntingdon keeper Zack Moenter for the goal to make it 1-0. Major was back at it again in the eighth minute when he found the back of the net from distance, assisted by Keegan Weekley, to give the Scots a 3-0 lead.
It was the second career two-goal match for Major.
Sandwiched between Major's two goals was Parker Owen's strike in the sixth minute. Owen blasted a shot from roughly 30 yards out to find the back of the net. The goal was Owen's third of the year, and his second in as many days.
Covenant capped the scoring outburst in the first half with Anthony Buzzeo's fourth goal of the year. Buzzeo headed the ball in from Aaron Riggs' pass to give Covenant a comfortable 4-0 lead.
The Scots peppered Huntingdon keepers Moenter and Zach Sheahan with shot attempts all evening. Covenant took a season-high 37 shots, with 20 of those being on target, and held a 37-4 margin over Huntingdon. In the second half alone, Covenant had 13 shots on goal.
Covenant tacked on one more goal early in the second half as Josh Brower beat Sheahan for his seventh goal of the season for a 5-0 Scots advantage.
Paul Lemay and Henry Hooks combined for the shutout, the ninth of the year for Covenant. Lemay got credit for the win as he made the start and collected one save before Hooks came on for the second half and made one stop.
Sheahan led Huntingdon (6-9, 3-8 USA South) with 12 saves.
Covenant will continue its conference road trip on Tuesday at Brevard. The match, a make-up contest from Sept. 14, is set for 4 p.m.
