Scrooge: A Unity Carol Comes To Lee University Nov. 22-24

  • Monday, October 21, 2019

Unity Touring, along with Unity Dance Studios, presents its all-new production, Scrooge: A Unity Carol. Based on Charles Dickens’ novel A Christmas Carol, Scrooge will premiere Nov. 22-24 at the Lee University Dixon Center.

Review for Scrooge: A Unity Carol:

Come experience the story of Ebenezer Scrooge with an unexpected twist that will open your eyes to a new perspective on God’s presence in your past, present and future.

Scrooge harnesses the power of the arts in ways never before explored in a Unity production. Featuring original musical composition and live instrumental performance, dynamic choreography and acrobatics, professional acting and dialogue, and original Broadway-style set, this show truly has it all. The melody of piano, cello, and violin, composed by Zamüell, ushers Scrooge through the wintry walk from his cold London accounting house to his home where he will experience a night of inexplicable wonder and discovery.

Lead by the three ghosts of Christmas, Scrooge faces scenes from his past, discovers his present reality from a fresh perspective, and receives a timely warning of what is to come… unless he makes the decision to live in a new way.

Christmas Past, played by Unity Touring Artist Kara Harville embodies the beauty and strength of ballet and classical pointe. Past leads Scrooge through memories from childhood through his early adulthood to reveal her presence with him through even the hardest of moments. Christmas Present, played by professional actor and Unity Touring Artist Kyle Gazak, opens Scrooge’s eyes to the goodness available to him in the present joy and wonder of Christmas. Christmas Future, played by Principal Unity Touring Artist Alexis Ziarkowski Burleson, forces Scrooge to face the ultimate consequence of the trajectory of the life he has chosen to live.

Unity is excited to welcome several community guests to perform in this production including Dr. Seth Ford, Eric Boston, and Jonathan Cantrell. Dr. Ford will debut as Scrooge’s compassionate and patient nephew, Fred. Mr. Cantrell will carry several roles including Belle’s husband. Mr. Boston will play several on-stage roles in addition to leading the set design and construction for this Christmas classic. CEO of Boston Uncommon, Mr. Boston is pioneering new fronts for a Unity production by creating a town scene including building façades and moveable platforms to transform the stage to follow Scrooge’s intricate journey through time.

Choreography featuring the work of Alexis Ziarkowski Burleson and Grace Watkins explores everything from contemporary, tap, pointe, classical ballroom waltz, acrobatics, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop, leaving no room for a dull moment.

Scrooge will also feature the masterful costume design and construction of Lauren Leggett. With the help of her team, Ms. Leggett has designed and created an original wardrobe for over 240 dancers and actors. From elaborate ballroom dresses to the rags worn by Ignorance and Want, the variety of colors and materials bring the story to life through deep symbolism and imagery.

Whether you love everything about Christmas or you are a Scrooge, this show is sure to delight as you follow a man from his bah-humbug days to his moment of freedom. Come discover the secret to his change of heart as you prepare your own to begin this year’s holiday festivities. Take time this November to experience Scrooge and watch how no one is beyond repair...  No one is without a way back to wholeness...

Tickets are available online at www.unitydancetroupe.com/tickets. Tickets are $15 or $30 for preferred seating for the first three rows. Performances will be Friday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2 and 7 p.m.; and  Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Lee University Dixon Center.
