Lee Men Finish Second At Matt Dyas Invitational

  • Tuesday, October 22, 2019
The No. 7 Lee men's golf team wrapped up the fall season with a second place finish at the Matt Dyas Invitational on Tuesday. The event was hosted by the University of West Georgia.

The Wolves made the most of their home-course advantage winning the team title by nine-strokes with  an 836 total over the Flames and Delta State. The wolves shot a final round 278 thanks four rounds under par led by Jack Brennan (68) and Rece Moore (69) who finished tied for fourth.

The Flames were led by senior Dylan Lillard.
The Cleveland native fired all three rounds under par (69, 67, 71) for a 207 total. Lillard landed the All-Tournament team with a third place finish.

We played some good golf this week, but unfortunately it wasn't good enough to pull out the win. West Georgia played very well the past two rounds, so give them credit," said Lee head coach John Maupin.

"We were in really good position at the turn today, but we lost some momentum on holes 10-12, and that's where I think the tournament swung. We also made too many bogeys on the par 5's today, we need to be more consistent with our par 5 scoring."

Joining Lillard were two of the most consistent Flames this fall, freshman Beck Burnette (70, 71, 70, 211) and Connor Pollman (72, 70, 70, 212). Burnette finished tied for ninth while Pollman placed tied for 11th.

"We had 3 guys finish in the Top 11, I thought that was a positive. Beck and Connor played very solid, and have all semester. Dylan had a great tournament this week, very proud of his performance," noted Maupin.

Sophomore Parker Gray carded a 217 and was tied for 21st while senior Evan Spence was tied for 34th with a 223 finish. Junior Brian Clark shot a 219 and was tied for 25th  and senior Scott Odell tallied a 222 and was tied for 32nd while playing as individuals.

The Flames will open up the spring championship season on Feb. 24 as they take part in the Saint Leo Invitational from Dade City, Fla.

"It was a very positive Fall for our team, and I truly believe we can play even better in the Spring. This is a strong group of guys, I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do," concluded Maupin.
