William Eugene Edwards, Jr., passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, surrounded by his loving family and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Eldora Edwards; parents-in-law, Paul and Ann Bradley; and brother-in-law, Dick Bradley.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Bradley Edwards; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Bill and Heidi Edwards of Rocky Face; daughters and son-in-law, Paula Edwards of Decatur, Ga., and Traci and Cary Wooten of Dalton; grandchildren, Brad Edwards and Charlotte Edwards of Rocky Face; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Barbara Bradley of Burnsville, N.C., Lynn and Randy Evans of Jacksonville, Fl., and George Mathews of Morristown, Tn.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

William was born in Dalton, Ga. on June 21, 1946. He graduated from Dalton High School in 1964 and received a Bachelor’s degree in Textiles from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1969.  He served in the US Army Chemical Corps from 1969-1971. William retired from Shaw Industries as Plant Manager after 35 years of service. He served as director of the Dalton Duplicate Bridge Club for 36 years and earned the rank of Bronze Life Master. He was active in the community and served on several Boards over the years, including leadership roles at United Way of Northwest Georgia and most recently Looper Speech & Hearing. He enjoyed golf, tennis and traveling with family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Jonathan Barlow and Rev. Phillip Cannon officiating.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 3-5 p.m. at Love Funeral Home.
