Owens, Mary Magdalene Goforth (Benton)

Mary Magdalene Goforth Owens, 87, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at a local healthcare facility. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.  She was the greatest mother, pastor’s wife, a great cook, faithfully raised five children and will be missed by all. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Elbert Owens; mother, Callie Goforth; children, Bobby Owens and Joan Moats; siblings, Ella Humphreys, Easter Ellis, Letcher Goforth, Elsie Wright and Virgil Goforth.

Survivors include her children, Mary Quarles, Edward Owens, Bill Owens and Chad (Lacey) Moats; 12 grandchildren, 12 great–grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and brother, R.B. Goforth.  Several nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.   

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Higgins Funeral Home, with Pastor Wilfred Wright officiating.  Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 at Greasy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3 at the funeral home prior to the service.
