(UPDATED) Behind a balanced attack with four different hitters with six or more kills, including 20 from their middle hitters, Notre Dame swept Boyd-Buchanan to reach its third straight Division II-A East Region District 2 championship final. They will face off Monday evening against Grace, 4-1 winners over Silverdale.
Boyd-Buchanan will take the court against the Lady Seahawks in a consolation match preceding the championship contest.
The first match starts at 5 p.m. with the the championship match following at 6:30 p.m. in the Grace gymnasium.
Set scores in the Lady Irish win were 25-17, 25-11, 25-18.
Career nights from sophomore middle hitter Regan Wolf (nine kills) and junior middle hitter Emmeline Crisp (nine kills and two blocks) made for a balanced attack that proved too much for the Lady Bucs’ defense.
Grace won with set scores of 25-22, 21-25, 27-25, and 25-17.
The Lady Bucs were led by Julia Headrick with eight digs, seven kills and four aces, while Katie Culver contributed five digs and seven kills. Cali Sandhoff chipped in 18 digs, one kill and 23 assists, along with Calla Brady’s 35 digs.
Grace was led by Megan Long’s 17 kills, 18 digs, one block and two aces. Teammate Lainey Barrow helped the winning cause with 15 kills to go along with an assist, four digs and four blocks. Miriam Ateca had 45 assists for the Lady Golden Eagles.
Silverdale’s efforts were led by Ashlee Kugler with 38 assists and Ansley Junkins’ 18 digs. Kenzie Manning had 10 kills to lead the offense.
