Dora Shields
Dora Lee Shields, 96, of Hixson, Tennessee, went home to be with Jesus on October 6, 2019.
She was a 1941 graduate of Central High School. Dora worked as a church hostess for around 20 years at Woodland Park Baptist Church and was a member of what later became Hickory Valley Baptist Church. In her later years she sang in the 8:30 service choir at Hixson United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Maggie Walters; husband, R.L. “Buck” Shields; sister, Marie Burris; granddaughter, Christy LeeAnn Brown.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy (Willard) Sexton; son, Tom (Coleen) Shields; grandchild, Christina (Wayne) Haines; great-grandchildren, Shaina (David) Lutton, Will Brown and Gabrielle Reidy; great-great granddaughter, Isabelle Lutton; sister, Mary Matthews; brother, J.W. Walters and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hixson United Methodist Church Organ Fund, 5301 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery.
Arrangements are held by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
