Rebecca Finley Harris was born on September 30, 1931, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Reverend Amos and Mrs. Sarah Finley, Sr. She departed this life on Tuesday, October 8, 2019. 

She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Bertha Webb Finley, seven brothers, William, James, David, Claude, Amos, Clarence, Joseph Finley, and one sister Mattie Bee Finley Cooper.

Rebecca was a graduate of Howard Sr High School with a diploma, Knoxville College with a Bachelor of Science, and Tennessee State A&I University with her master’s degree. She also attended Trevecca College working on her PhD in education, but she received her certificate to be a principal.

Mrs. Harris taught in the Chattanooga Public School System as an elementary grade teacher. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband “Dear” Rev. Grant Harris, Jr.; her two daughters, Denise Harris of Atlanta, and Cornelia Harris Johnson and one son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Robert Eugene Johnson of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Jermaine Harris, Candace Johnson, both of Atlanta, and Robert “Bobby” Johnson II of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren, Franklin D. Murphy III, JerMaria Harris, and JerNyla Harris of Atlanta; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Rebecca known as “Aunt Re”, loved each member of her family as if they were her own child. Aunt Re, looked forward to her daily visits from Sara Ford, Dennis Finley, Edward Cooper, and Nakia Wright.

Public viewing will begin at 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, at Second Missionary Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service beginning at 12 p.m.

Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
