Mary Millener
Mary John (Macy Poindexter) Millener, passed away on November 6, 2019, in Memphis, Tenneessee.
She was born on March 9, 1941, to John Wesley Poindexter and Louise Freeman in Newnan, Ga.
She married her husband Maurice Millener in 1976 and moved to Norfolk, Va. She traveled with her husband to several places throughout his military career to include Mayport, Fl.; Sugar Grove, W.V.; Charleston, S.C., and finally settling in Memphis, Tn. in 1988.
Mary was highly skilled in her professional life and had many hobbies. Some of which included sewing, warehousing, parts assembly, machinery, dancing, listening to music, cooking, watching country westerns, collecting coins and stamps, and reading. But Mary’s passion was mentoring youth and she strongly believed that was her life’s purpose. Although Mary never gave birth to her own children, she was a mother and mentor to many.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Stanley Poindexter and William (Bill) McComb, and her sisters, Linda Ryals and Lanette Lazenby.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Maurice Millener; her brother, Freeman Poindexter, her sisters, Jewell (Marvin) Brewer and Debbie (Ernest) Bryant, devoted nieces, Latress (Greg) Nicks and Lisa (Michael) Howard, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Public viewing will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, followed by the funeral service in the chapel at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
