(UPDATED) On a day that she signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her basketball career with Mississippi State Wednesday morning at the high school gymnasium, East Hamilton’s Madison Hayes hit for a career path triple double.
The 2018 TSSAA Class 3A Miss Basketball had gone to bed the night before knowing she had been named to the Naismith Top 50 High School Watch List, but then Wednesday morning USA Today’s All-USA Preseason Girls Team was announced and the senior leader of the Lady Hurricanes saw her name listed as one of the top 25 girl high school players in the nation.
Hayes was widely recruited and offered scholarships from more than 20 Division I schools.
With her senior year at East Hamilton still to play, she has produced historic stats with 2227 points, 1220 rebounds, 353 assists, 367 steals, and 178 blocks in her career as a Hurricane. These stats make her the all-time leader in the respective categories at East Hamilton.
The standout status and hustle both on and off the court of Hayes led East Hamilton head coach Hunter Gremore to comment, “Madison is a great kid with tremendous character and an unbelievable work ethic. Signing with Mississippi State is a huge honor for her and one that is well deserved.”
Joining Hayes on the USA Today squad are two of her teammates from this past summer’s U18 3X3 World Cup gold medal team in Ulannbaatar, Mongolia, Treasure Hunt of Hamilton Heights here in Chattanooga, and Olivia Cochran of Carver High in Columbus, GA.
Hayes is also listed as the number 29 overall prospect on ESPN Hoopgurlz.
