Chattanooga City Councilwoman Demetrus Coonrod has been named to the State Executive Committee for the 10th Senatorial District for the Tennessee Democratic Party.

That comes after the resignation of Khristy Wilikinson, who was elected to the post in August 2018.

In this role, Ms. Coonrod will be responsible for promoting the ideas and principles of the Democratic Party and assist in the election of Democratic nominees. In addition, state committee members are responsible for the day to day operations of the party at the state level, including establishing the procedure for selecting delegates to the Democratic National Convention.

In Hamilton County, Chris Anderson is the male representative on the committee for the 10th Senatorial District. Prior to being elected as a city councilwoman, Ms. Coonrod served as vice chair of the Hamilton County Democratic Party.

Councilwoman Coonrod said she "is honored to serve the people of Senate District 10 and look forward to working with Democrats throughout the state to elect progressive leaders who believe in equality and justice for all."

The next election for State Committee officers will be held in August of 2022. However, because Councilwoman Coonrod was named mid-term, she will have to stand for election in August 2020.
